How to install Skyrim SE mods

A short, general guide. Always follow the instructions on the mod’s own page first.

  1. Use a mod manager. Mod Organizer 2 or Vortex keep mods separate and make load order and removal safe.
  2. Install the framework first. Most adult mods depend on a framework such as SexLab or OStim — check the “Requirements” section on the mod page.
  3. Watch the load order. Frameworks and libraries load before the mods that use them. SKSE is required by most frameworks.
  4. Unpack manually if needed. Manual installs go to the Data folder: .esp/.esl plugins, .bsa/.esp meshes and textures, scripts to DataScripts.
  5. Enable plugins in your mod manager or launcher and start via SKSE.
  6. Update saves carefully. Removing scripted mods from an existing save can leave traces — read the author’s notes before updating.
